Dear Friend of FFF,

With your support, The Future of Freedom Foundation has published seven books on important aspects of freedom since our inception in 1989. We now wish to publish our eighth book -- our most important one -- and we again need your help to do so.

The title of our newest book will be: "Liberty and Security: Opposing the War on Terrorism."

The so-called war on terrorism presents the greatest threat to the rights and liberties of the American people in our lifetime, much more so, even, than the war on drugs. Not surprisingly, federal officials are using the atmosphere of crisis, which is almost perpetual now, to justify an ever-increasing array of infringements on our freedom.

At the same time, besieged by fear that they will become victims of a terrorist attack, all too many Americans are more than willing to surrender their liberties to their government in the hope of gaining security from terrorism.

As the Founding Fathers of our nation understood so well, however, such a hope is illusory. People who surrender their liberties to their rulers lose both their liberty and their security.

The Future of Freedom Foundation continues to resist this dangerous trend primarily through the publication of articles and essays, which we are posting regularly on the Internet and sharing with wire services and newspapers across the land.

But given the importance of the war on terrorism and its threat to our freedom and well-being, it is important that we use every medium of communication to spread our ideas, including the sale of our books through amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and laissezfairebooks.com.

Ideas have consequences. They move people. That is why totalitarian governments throughout history have tried to suppress the publication of both the written and the spoken word -- they know that ideas have power. And while the Internet has proven to be a phenomenal means of spreading ideas, it is a supplement to the power of books to communicate, not a substitute for it.

As our long-time subscribers and supporters know, ever since our inception 12 years ago one of our foremost objectives has been to defend the spirit, philosophy, and principles of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. It is impossible to overstate the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, who recognized that the greatest threat to the freedom and well-being of the people lies not with some external enemy but rather with their own government, especially during times of crisis. That is why the purpose of the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, is to ensure that our government does not take away our rights and our liberties, even during crises.

America's move toward empire in the 20th century has proven destructive to the best interests of the American people. Empires spawn terrorist reistance to the actions of the empire, which in turn produces a perpetual climate of crisis for the citizenry. The inevitable result is out-of-control government spending and taxation, inflationary debasement of the currency, and ever-increasing infringements on the liberty of the people.

We must continue battling to restore the principles of liberty set forth in our Declaration of Independence, whose spirit and philosophy guided the Framers of our Constitution. Our success would be the greatest gift that we could give to ourselves, our children, indeed to the entire world.

Our newest book -- "Liberty and Security: Opposing the War on Terrorism" -- will be an important contribution to that endeavor. We hope we can count on your support once again.

Yours for liberty, Jacob G. Hornberger Founder and President The Future of Freedom Founcation 11350 Random Hills Road Suite 800 Fairfax VA 22030 Tel: (703) 934-6101 Fax: (703) 352-8678 Email: Jhornberger@fff.org www.fff.org
